Private 50th Party

at the House of St. Barnabus, Soho, London

at the House of St. Barnabus, Soho, London

The brief for the party was to create an intimate party for the client’s closest friends to celebrate a special birthday party. They required a very private central London venue, in easy reach of the West End, where a late licence was permitted.

The client ideally wanted to feel as if they were entertaining at home and wanted a blank canvas on which we would be able to create a very individual feel to their party. Their preference was for an architecturally interesting space with the feel of faded grandeur. The style of the party needed to be elegant but masculine, yet at the same time relaxed.

Honey found the perfect venue – an 18th century Grade 1 listed Georgian building in the heart of Soho with original fireplaces, an ornate staircase and a private garden at the back. The client’s own private house for the evening. The space was very raw – with no furniture on site, peeling paint and scuffed floorboards. It was the ideal backdrop for Honey to work its magic.

Downstairs in the venue, we transformed the space into a Gentleman’s Club, with faded leather chairs, Ottoman sofas, side tables and lamps, plus a specially laid carpet for the evening. This formed the reception room as guests arrived and were welcomed by traditional Martinis served from an Art deco Martini trolley and canapés.

After the reception, guests made their way up the stunning staircase to dinner, whilst Honey projected onto the staircase walls a selection of carefully chosen photographs of the client.

Upstairs in the Dining Room, which had been dressed with a bespoke-made tan leather dining  table, traditional wooden chairs and hundreds of orange roses, guests were served a stunning three course dinner.

After dinner and speeches, guests were invited back downstairs for coffee, cheese and after-dinner liquors and Port.

Throughout the evening, guests were entertained by a jazz musician who performed from the baby grand, which we placed in the hallway of the venue.
